THE SOUTHWESTERN University (SWU) Cobras captured their third straight win after defeating the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 94-81, in the seniors division of the 2011 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

After struggling off the gates in spite of the hype that surrounded the team with a champion coach in Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba and the acquisition of several blue-chip players, the Cobras are now spitting venom in the face of all comers as they are slowly creeping up on the perennial contenders.

The victory pushed their record to 6-3 (win-loss) while keeping CIT-U at the bottom of the barrell with a winless mark.

Joseph Nalos kept his rhythm going as he led the team with 21 markers. Four others reached twin digits with Bon Guillena and Rene Pacquiao tallying 15 and 14 respectively. Allen Dimco paced CIT-U with 16 while Axel Rabaya and Chester Curso had 14 points each.

In juniors action, the league-leading Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles bounced back from their first loss of the tournament by dominating the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters, 94-81. Dawn Ochea and Julius Cadavis combined to score 33 markers for SHS-AdC. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
