MANILA, Philippines — About 90 families were displaced in a fire that razed a shanty community in Quezon City Tuesday morning.
Superintendent Jesus Fernandez, Quezon City Fire marshal, said in a phone interview with INQUIRER.net that some 30 houses were gutted in Sitio Ruby in Barangay (village) North Fairview around 8 a.m.
Fernandez said the fire broke out in a home after one of its family members cooked in wood fire.
The fire easily spread through nearby houses, which were made of light materials. It reached fourth alarm.
The affected families have been evacuated to the barangay hall for temporary shelter.
