Quake jolts Panay

MANILA, Philippines—A 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Panay island on Friday, sending workers out of their offices and causing cracks to form on a building’s wall. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The quake’s epicenter was Antique province’s Culasi municipality, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. It added that some damage and aftershocks were expected.

The US Geological Survey measured the magnitude at 5.4.

In a bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake occurred at around 4:05 p.m., five kilometers southeast of Culasi.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualty from the tectonic earthquake, which happened at a depth of 14 kilometers. Julie M. Aurelio and AP
