MANILA, Philippines—By virtue of Proclamation No. 470 signed by President Fidel Ramos in September 1994, Elderly Filipino Week is celebrated every first week of October.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, senior citizens are those aged 60 years old and above. They made up 6.8 percent of the total 92.1 million household population in the 2010 census. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
