COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Three private security guards were wounded, one of them critically, when unidentified armed men shot up the main entrance to a government hospital here Tuesday night, police said.
Superintendent Rolen Balquin, the city’s police chief, said the shooting took place 8:10 p.m. at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center.
He said the gunmen shot up the main entrance of the hospital, where the three guards from Goldfield Security Agency —Ameruddin Sumandal, Sahab Abdullah, and one identified only as Mohammad —were stationed.
Abdullah and Mohammad were in stable condition but Sumandal was critically injured, Balquin said.
As the wounded security guards fell, one of the gunmen alighted from the motorcycle and seized the rifle belonging to Mohammad.
Balquin said the police were looking at “agaw armas”(firearms grabbing) or personal grudge as motive for the attack.
