Catholic doctors host World Congress Oct. 1-4

MANILA, Philippines–The Catholic Physicians’ Guild of the Philippines (CPGP) will be hosting the XXIV FIAMC World Congress and its 78th anniversary and annual convention at the Fiesta Pavilion, Manila Hotel, One Rizal Park, Manila City, on Oct. 1 to 4. FIAMC stands for Fédération Internationale des Associations Médicales Catholiques, or the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations.

The theme of the congress is “The Catholic Doctor in an Era of Secularization and Technology.” Among the session topics are “The Formation of a Catholic Physician,” “Bridging Science and Faith in the Medical Curriculum,” “Prayer in the Life of a Catholic Physician,” “Ethical Issues in Stem Cell Therapy” and “Dealing with Laws Contrary to Catholic Faith” to be delivered by a respected group of foreign and local speakers.

The keynote address will be delivered by his Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias of India while the Dr. Mariano Alimurung Memorial lecturer will be Dr. Angeles Tan-Alora, professor of bioethics.

FIAMC president Dr. Jose Maria Simon Castellvi, CPGP president Dr. Manuel M. Po and the XXIV FIAMC World Congress organizing committee headed by overall convention chair Dr. Jocelyn Yambao-Franco are inviting all physicians, medical students, health care providers, religious groups and laymen to attend the event.
