NDRRMC, MTRCB ink memorandum on disaster resilience
MANILA, Philippines—Taking advantage of the scope of the silver screen, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council signed an agreement with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board on Tuesday to improve the public knowledge on disaster preparedness and resilience.
Undersecretary Alexander Pama, NDRRMC chief, and Attorney Eugenio Villareal, MTRCB chairman, signed the agreement which would show NDRRMC plugs in cinemas to raise public awareness on disaster preparedness.
MTRCB would allow production works and video presentations that feature disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) concepts to get air time and screen time, which the public could watch.
“What we are doing right now is putting ourselves in the right perspective so that the public can understand better concepts on disaster resilience,” Pama said.
NDRRMC spokesperson Romina Marasigan said the MTRCB can help in “mainstreaming” the disaster concepts which is often alien to the general public.
