MANILA, Philippines–Sen. Grace Poe remains the top choice for Vice President in 2016, leading 11 potential candidates included in a recent Pulse Asia survey.

The poll, conducted from Sept. 8 to 15, was part of the Pulse Asia survey, which also asked respondents about their preferences for President and senators.

Thirty-one percent said they would vote for Poe for Vice President if the elections were held during the time of the survey. This was higher than the 26 percent she got in July.

Poe was followed by Sen. Francis Escudero, who saw his numbers go down to 19 percent from 22 percent in July.

They were followed by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano (9 percent from 14 percent), Sen. Antonio Trillanes (7 percent from 6 percent), Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (6 percent from 8 percent) and Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto (6 percent from 4 percent).

Detained Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and Senate President Franklin Drilon each posted 5 percent, unchanged.

Detained Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo posted 3 percent each, while businessman Manny V. Pangilinan, reportedly Binay’s preference for his running mate, registered 2 percent.

Senatorial race

In the senatorial race, Sen. Vicente Sotto III, former Sen. Francis Pangilinan and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas were the leading candidates. Pangilinan is presidential assistant for food security and agricultural modernization.

“Statistically speaking, 15 out of the 57 personalities included in the survey’s senatorial probe have a chance of winning if the May 2016 elections were conducted during the survey period,” Pulse Asia said.

Sotto (51.6 percent) and Pangilinan (51.5 percent) shared the 1st to 6th places, while Roxas (47.6 percent) took the 1st to 9th places.

Marcos got 47.2 percent; Lacson, 47.1 percent; and Gordon, 45.9 percent, who all shared the 1st to 10th places.

Occupying the 3rd to 10th places were Santos (44.5 percent), Sen. Ralph Recto (44.1 percent) and Drilon (42.6 percent).

Completing the list of probable senatorial winners were Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao (31.3 percent) and former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros (30.7 percent), occupying the 11th to 16th places.

They were followed by Taguig City Rep. Lino Cayetano (27.7 percent, 14th to 18th), Manila City Vice Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso (24.5 percent, 16th to 23rd), Sen. Teofisto Guingona III (23.5 percent, 16th to 24th), Buhay Rep. Lito Atienza (22 percent, 17th to 24th), Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla (21.4 percent, 17th to 25th), former Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay (20.6 percent, 17th to 26th), Robredo (20.6 percent, 17th to 26th), former Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile (20.4 percent, 17th to 26th), former Puerto Princesa City Mayor Ed Hagedorn (19.6 percent, 18th to 27th), former Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon (17 percent, 20th to 27th), Gwendolyn Pimentel (16.8 percent, 21st to 27th), former Pampanga Gov. Mark Lapid (15.6 percent, 24th to 27th), Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman (11.7 percent, 28th to 34th), former Cavite Rep. Gilbert Remulla (11.7 percent, 28th to 34th) and actor Dingdong Dantes (11.1 percent, 28th to 35th).

Pulse Asia said that seven in every 10 Filipinos had a complete slate for the senatorial race with about 19 months left before the May 2016 elections.
