Today, Sept. 29, is the 110th birth anniversary of National Scientist Juan Salcedo Jr. Born in 1904 in Pasay, Salcedo served as health secretary from 1950 to 1953 and was elected president of the World Health Organization Assembly in 1952. He published more than 200 articles on medicine, science and technology and was named a National Scientist in 1978. Salcedo died on Oct. 25, 1988.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
