Registration for Feb. 21 SK polls ends Monday, except for typhoon areas

MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos aged 15 to 17 have until Monday (Sept. 29) to register for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or youth council elections early 2015.

Commission on Elections spokesperson James Jimenez reminded qualified individuals in his Twitter account to take time to register so they could vote in the barangay (village)-based youth council polls set for Feb. 21.

“Gising na, SK! Hanggang ngayon at bukas na lang ang pagpaparehistro para sa SK elections! (Wake up, SK! You only have today and tomorrow to register for the SK elections),” Jimenez said on Sunday.

Registration for the SK polls started on Sept. 20 and will end on Monday (Sept. 29) in most of the country. Some areas affected by the recent Tropical Storm “Mario” and the monsoon rains will get an extension, however.

Registration in the typhoon-hit provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur will be held until Oct. 6; in Obando, Bulacan, until Oct. 2; and in Cainta, Rizal, up to Sept. 30.

Qualified to register are Filipino citizens at least 15 but not over 18 years old on election day, and actual residents of their barangays for at least six months prior to the elections.

Applicants may present any of the following documents: Certificate of live birth, baptismal certificate, school records, or any document that will establish their identity and other qualifications, except a community tax certificate and certification from a barangay official.
