MANILA, Philippines— Truth is what matters to President Benigno Aquino III over friendship.

That’s how Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte described Aquino’s stand over the corruption allegations hurled against Vice President Jejomar Binay.

“Tingin ko naipakita na ho ng Pangulo kung ano ‘yung nangingibabaw pagdating ho sa kanya. The truth shall set you free,” Valte said.

(I think the President has shown what really matters to him. The truth shall set you free.)

She issued the statement after being asked about the relationship of Aquino and Binay amid the Senate investigation on the alleged overpriced Makati City Building II.

Binay has been a long-time family friend of the Aquinos.

She said the President has no much knowledge about the accusations against Binay but has maintained his position on pursuing good governance.

She reiterated that the information of Aquino about the allegations was primarily based on what the media has reported.

“So he cannot comment either for the truth or the falsity of allegations and counter allegations,” she said.

Aquino will arrive in the Philippines this Thursday night after a two-week travel abroad.
