Fallen Trees in Ilocos Norte due to strong winds as tropical storm “Mario” slammed the entire province on Saturday.

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Monday that the partial damage on roads, bridges, and flood control facilities in areas hit by tropical storm “Mario” (international name: Fung-Wong) amounted to P273.14 million.
According to the department’s latest bulletin released Monday morning, Region I or the Ilocos Region incurred the most damage on public infrastructure at P184.80 million.
DPWH also cited that “Mario” brought P56.60 million worth of damage on roads and bridges in Central Luzon, P31.50 million in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and P240,000 in the National Capital Region.
DPWH also stated that 22 road sections in storm-ravaged areas remain closed to traffic: eight in CAR, nine in Ilocos Region, four in Central Luzon, and one in Bicol Region. The department stated that these roads were closed due to “washed out/damaged detour roads, landslides, fallen trees, fallen electric posts and flood waters”.
DPWH stated that they have deployed officers to clear closed roads and have built temporary bridges to replace those which were washed out.
“Mario” dumped heavy rains in Luzon and Visayas since Thursday and left 11 people dead, according to the bulletin released Monday by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).
