MANILA, Philippines-Three days after Tropical Storm “Mario” (international name: Fung-Wong) laid waste to Metro Manila and the northern parts of Luzon, more than a hundred thousand people are still displaced across eight regions in the country.
In its Monday morning advisory, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that 129,676 persons or 30,266 families are still living in 324 evacuation centers in Metro Manila, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
“Mario” affected a total of 1,160,050 people or 285,976 families across nine regions.
According to the NDRRMC bulletin, Central Luzon had the most evacuees with 76,658 people with Calabarzon having 45,860 evacuees.
Ilocos Region had 3,618 evacuees, Bicol with 219, CAR with 101, Metro Manila with 79 and Mimaropa with 15.
There were no reported evacuees from Cagayan, another region that bore the brunt of “Mario.”
Also, NDRRMC reported that 425 houses were completely destroyed while 1,710 were partially damaged in Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and CAR.
