MANILA, Philippines – As the rainfall warning in Metro Manila was downgraded from Red to Orange early Friday evening, floodwaters in Mandaluyong City have started to recede.

Mandaluyong city disaster risk reduction management office’s (CDRRMO) Twitter alerts showed that after several residents braved through waters that rose to nearly neck level, floods in many areas went down to ankle level around past 7 p.m.

Maysilo Circle and Sgt. Bumatay were also placed under Code A in the evening.

Barangay Daang Bakal suffered the worst flood in the city, with the water level reaching Code E (above chest) around 5 p.m., while the flood in T. Bernardo reached Code D (ground to waist).

The flood near the Maysilo Circle, where the city hall sits, was aggravated by the unfinished flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways at the area.

Excavations as deep as 10 feet at the circle have also posed risk to people going to the city hall.
