MANILA, Philippines—He chose the wrong man to pick on.

On Sunday night, a 32-year-old resident of Parola Compound in Tondo, Manila, was killed while his brother ended up in the hospital after the former bullied a stranger who fought back.

Joseph Lineses and his brother, Hernino, 34, were rushed to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Hospital due to multiple stab wounds.

Lineses, however, was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors while Hernino remains confined due to the seriousness of his injuries.

Police Officer 3 Charles John Duran of the Manila Police District’s homicide section said they had started looking for the man who stabbed the brothers.

He was described as between 25 and 30 years old and about 5’8” tall. He immediately escaped after he attacked the victims with a knife.

The police said the stabbing took place at around 9 p.m. on Sunday near the victims’ house at Area F in the Parola Compound in Tondo.

Police said that before the attack, Lineses was drinking on the street with several of his neighbors when a stranger passed by.

Without any provocation, Lineses blocked the man’s path and punched him in the face.

Surprised and obviously hurting from the blow he took, the man continued on his way even as Lineses and his neighbors taunted him.

The police said that after a few minutes, the man came back, this time wielding a 13-inch-long kitchen knife.

He went straight to where Lineses was standing and stabbed him as the victim’s drinking companions ran away.

When Hernino saw the man attacking his brother, he tried to save him but was stabbed as well.

Witnesses said the man fled afterward, leaving behind the knife used in the stabbing.
