MANILA, Philippines–Still manifesting continuous activities inside it, the Mayon Volcano recorded 45 volcanic quakes and 277 rockfall events during a 24-hour span, the seismology bureau said.
In its Mayon bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said the movements happened in 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Phivolcs added that the crater of Mayon is at Intensity III wherein a bright crater glow has been visible at night.
Also, rolling incandescent rockfall at the uppermost level of Bonga gully has been recorded which indicates that lava is breaching the dome of the crater on the southeastern side.
Mayon is still under Alert Level III, meaning an eruption is imminent.
As of Wednesday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines has force-evacuated 1,653 families from the six-kilometer permanent danger zone around the volcano.
