MANILA, Philippines—After battering northern Luzon, Typhoon “Luis” slightly weakened late Sunday night as it continued to make its way out of the Philippine landmass, the weather bureau said.
In its tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Luis now packs maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of 150 kph.
Earlier at 5 p.m. Sunday, Luis was packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and 160 kph gusts.
Pagasa added that as of 10 p.m., Luis was in the vicinity of Kabugao, Apayao, and moved at a pace of 30 kph on a west northwest path.
Placed under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 3 are Cagayan, Babuyan and Calayan groupsf islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Ilocos Sur, which are to experience winds of 101 kph to 185 kph for at least 18 hours.
Pagasa raised Public Storm Warning Signal No.2 over Batanes group of islands, Isabela, Ifugao, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya and Pangasinan, which could experience winds of 61 kph to 100 kph winds for at least 24 hours.
Under Signal No. 1 are Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan Nueva Ecija, Quirino and Aurora, which could experience winds of 30 kph to 60 kph for at least 36 hours.
