Mandaue parents, teachers learn to cook

Aboitizland Inc. collaborated with the Aboitiz Foundation and Cebu MegaMoms Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MegaMoms) for a free culinary arts training for parents and teachers at the Don Calixto Yongco Sr. Tawason Elementary School in barangay Tawason, Mandaue City.

MegaMoms facilitates the training courses on Saturday afternoons.

The program rolled out in early August and will cover eight weeks of baking sessions and another eight weeks of cooking sessions. The sessions cover nutritious, inexpensive and easy to sell recipes.

“The training program is part of the Education Development Program developed by the company for the school,” said Corazon Baybay, AboitizLand’s community relations officer.

Parents under the program are encouraged to keep their children from missing or dropping out of school.

Through the livelihood program, parents are expected to augment their family’s income and continue sending their children to school.

A participant said the culinary training course gives her the opportunity to have extra livelihood income and prepare nutritious food for her family.

AboitizLand, the real estate arm of the Aboitiz Group, also donated baking and cooking equipment that will be used in the culinary training.

AboitizLand employee-volunteers focus on a curriculum enhancement project for the grade 6 pupils of Tawason Elementary School.

The program, titled You Can be a Hero, which is now on its second year, is in line with AboitizLand’s corporate social responsibility.
