MANILA, Philippines — Ten houses in a shanty community were destroyed by fire in a Quezon City village near the Camp Aguinaldo military headquarters on Thursday dawn.
Superintendent Jesus Fernandez, Quezon City fire marshal, told INQUIRER.net over the phone that at least 30 families have been evacuated as they were left homeless by the fire at Barangay (village) Socorro on 5th Avenue and Liberty Street.
Fernandez said no one was hurt in the incident.
The fire started at 5:25 a.m. It was put out at 6:05 a.m. after it reached third alarm.
The fire marshal said the fire broke out in the house of Raul Mangcosta, which was rented by a tricycle driver named “Jonathan.”
According to Fernandez, Jonathan had left a candle unattended inside his rented house which may have caused the fire.
