MANILA, Philippines–A tropical depression has formed outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and the weather bureau said it could become stronger as it gets momentum off the eastern seas of the Philippines.

In its weather advisory issued at 10:30 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the tropical depression was estimated to be 1,400 kilometers east of Visayas.

Pagasa weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the tropical depression could get stronger as it takes on more water off the sea and continues its northwestward path that would approach Northern Luzon.

“We can expect the tropical depression to get stronger as it is still far away off land,” Aurelio said.

Though with the current distance, the tropical depression would not affect any part of the country.

Aurelio added that the tropical depression would be named Luis once it enters the PAR in the next 24 hours.
