Senate resumes Makati building probe with new witnesses
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate blue ribbon committee on Thursday resumed its investigation into the allegedly anomalous construction of an 11-story Makati City Hall 2 parking building with new witnesses expected to face the hearing.
Senate Majority leader Alan Peter Cayetano, in an interview Wednesday, said new witnesses “about the biddings” of the project would face the committee.
Last week, the former head of the General Services Department of Makati City, Engineer Mario Hechanova, claimed that the bidding of the project was rigged in favor of the winning contractor, Hilmarc’s Construction Corporation.
Hechanova also alleged that as members of the city’s bidding and awards committee, they were receiving a monthly allowance of P200,000 from then mayor and now Vice President Jejomar Binay supposedly to rig the bidding of projects in the city.
