MANILA, Philippines—An anti-crime group wants the Philippine National Police Chief Director General Alan Purisima replaced amid controversies that involve men in uniform in high-profile crimes.

“Hindi ina-address ng PNP chief ang mga complaints sa kanya. Siya yung the unseen, the unheard kapag may malaking kaso hindi lumalabas sa media para ipaliwanag ang present na sitwasyon sa peace and order kung bakit ganon,” Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption member Boy Evangelista said in a televised interview.

(He doesn’t address all the complaints against him. He is the unseen, the unheard if there is a big case but it doesn’t come out in the media to explain the present situation of peace and order and why it is like that.}

Only recently, eight policemen in Quezon City were involved in an alleged abduction and robbery on Edsa, one of the country’s main thoroughfares.

“Kung involved ang police matatakot ka rin (If the police are involved you will also be afraid),” Evangelista said.

He also suggested that precincts be visited to check if there were other cases involving policemen.
