Rainy in most parts of the country on Friday

MANILA, Philippines–Two existing low pressure areas (LPAs) will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over most parts of the country on Friday, the weather bureau said.

One of these two low pressure areas crossed somewhere between northern and central Luzon around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

As of 5 a.m. Friday, one LPA was observed 190 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales, while the other was 690 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

Senior weather forecaster Jun Galang said there is a possibility the first low pressure area may strengthen into a tropical cyclone since it is expected to intensify once it is back at sea.

The second LPA that developed Wednesday is not expected to make landfall but is expected to continue moving northwards over the east Philippine Sea.

Also, the second low pressure area showed little chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, according to Galang.

Pagasa said “Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.”

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening, Pagasa added.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
