‘Karding’ makes cyclone list as ‘Kanor’ gets censored
MANILA, Philippines—A sex scandal is the least of concerns of the state weather bureau, but a series of scandalous clips has driven it to change the name of a weather disturbance.
Playing name-changers, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration dropped “Kanor” off the cyclone name list and put in “Karding.”
For all the members of the sex scandal-conscious community, “Mang Kanor” was the name given to the “protagonist” of a series of sex tapes involving a middle-aged man who was on the wrong side of handsome having some “quality time” with fair-looking younger ladies.
Weather forecaster Chris Perez told INQUIRER.net Wednesday that they received “negative feedback” when they launched “Kanor” as the name of the next cyclone.
“Cyclones and typhoons should be taken seriously, they are not a laughing matter,” Perez said.
Pagasa decided to pull out “Kanor” from the tube and insert “Karding” on Tuesday.
Perez said that “Kanor” was the only one pulled out and the rest of the typhoon names remain the same as the list they released in January.
He added that Pagasa usually changes names but devastating ones such as Super Typhoon “Yolanda” would remain and no future typhoons would bear the same name.
Pagasa would retain the names of typhoons that caused the death of more than 300 people or cause economic damages more than a billion pesos.
