Mastery in surgery course starts Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines–The Foundation for the Advancement of Surgical Education Inc. of the Department of Surgery, Philippine General Hospital, will hold its 50th postgraduate course entitled “Mastery in Surgery 2014: “Innovations and Advances in Surgery” starting Wednesday. The three-day course will be held at the Diamond Hotel on Roxas Boulevard.

The postgraduate course will focus on the innovations and advances in surgery through panel discussion sessions, lectures and video presentations by the different divisions of the department.

The objective is to enhance the knowledge of the participants toward attainment of competent surgical practice.

Among the highlights of the course are the Chancellor Alfredo T. Ramirez, MD Memorial Lecture and 13 scientific plenary sessions. There will also be “Meet the Professor Dinners” wherein four general surgery professors will provide additional insights and management approaches to a particular surgical problem through a close and interactive discussion with selected participants. Simultaneous workshops on the principles of breast cancer management, choledochoscopy, thoracic, cardiac and vascular trauma, and acute wound care management will likewise be conducted.

The participants of this course will be credited with PMA-CME and PCS-CSE units. In addition, a circular order from the Department of Health will be obtained to consider government physicians attending to be on official time.
