MANILA, Philippines – The Senate on Monday began its inquiry into the current state of the country’s public and mass transport system following an accident met by a Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) train in August that injured at least 38 people.

Several senators like Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, Bam Aquino and Aqulino Pimentel III initiated the investigation at the Senate after the MRT-3 overshot the tracks at the Taft Avenue station at the corner of Edsa and Taft Avenue in Pasay City.

Senator Grace Poe, who presides over the hearing, rode the MRT-3 last Friday without media fanfare to prepare for Monday’s hearing by the Senate committee on public services.
