Derek Ramsay’s ex: ‘Fight not about me but our son’

MARY Christine Jolly Ramsay

Mary Christine Jolly Ramsay, estranged wife of actor Derek Ramsay, faced reporters on Friday to explain the complaint she filed in June against him in the Makati City prosecutor’s office for alleged violation of the law on violence against women and children.

The former commercial model said she did it to pressure the actor to fulfill his obligations to support their 11-year-old son.

Ramsay filed a counteraffidavit last week denying her allegations, saying the only thing true in her complaint was the fact they were married in 2002 and that they have a son.

Reacting to Mary’s statements Friday, Ramsay said he didn’t want to speak ill of his child’s mother. “The court will play this out. That’s why I’m not holding any press con.”

“There’s something deep inside me that wants to [talk] and just blurt things out so that everyone knows the truth. But I care about my son. And I don’t want my son to hear his father talk bad about his mother,” the actor told the Inquirer.

“Whatever she throws at me, I’m going to have to respond to it. And we’ll do that in court.”

Ramsay’s lawyer Joji Antonio added: “The question remains unanswered. What in the world will an 11-year-old kid do with P45 million, which the complainant wants in lump sum?”

“We shall respond to the complainant’s latest claims in Derek’s rejoinder-affidavit,” Antonio added.

Mary, 36, held a press conference at New World Hotel in Makati claiming that her complaint stemmed from the “psychological violence” committed by Ramsay against her and their son when he refused to support their child despite her diligent efforts to contact and reach out to him.

“This fight is not about me. It is about my child abandoned by a negligent father for so many years,” she said, adding that Ramsay had seen their son only “four times” and that he did so “because I threatened to sue him.”

Mary said she earlier chose to be silent as a “sign of respect” to Ramsay and to avoid destroying his show biz career. “But there comes a point when enough is enough and I think I have come to that point. My son is growing up and he is asking too many questions.”

The boy is currently studying in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, her home country, she said. With a report from Bayani San Diego Jr.
