MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau expects up to three storms to hit the country in September.

This is despite the current absence of the southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat”, Alexis Cada of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Friday.

Isolalated rains and thunderstorms are expected every now and then even without the presence of a weather disturbance, he also said.

By October, the prevailing weather system is expected to shift to northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” which brings cool winds. It is usually identified with the Christmas season.
Rains and thunderstorms will continue in most parts of the country even as the low pressure area moved away from the Philippines.

The LPA was last observed 140 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City.

“Luzon and Western Visayas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,” Pagasa said.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao and from the south to southeast over the rest of the Luzon.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
