MANILA, Philippines—Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II on Thursday declined to comment on the possibility that former Senator Manny Villar would be Vice President Jejomar Binay’s running mate for the 2016 elections.
In a press briefing in Camp Crame, Roxas deliberately skipped the topic and said, “are there any questions on PNP (Philippine National Police)?”
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary held a presser at the PNP headquarters to present the recent accomplishments of the National Capital Police Region Office (NCRPO) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
But the media prodded Roxas to comment on the issue which came after Roxas’ political nemesis appointed on Wednesday Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla as his official spokesperson.
Remulla is a member of the Nacionalista Party. Villar is the president of the coalition.
During the 2010 national elections, Villar, who was then running for president, considered a tie-up with Binay but ended up choosing Senator Loren Legarda.
Roxas, currently the Liberal Party’s president-on-leave, lost to Binay when he ran for the vice president position also in 2010.
