MANILA, Philippines—They will give quietly, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said in response to the ice bucket challenge from Iloilo Representative Niel Tupas Jr.

“My husband and I have adopted a policy of quiet giving,” Sereno said with a smile.

Ice bucket challenge is a public activity where bucket of ice and water is dumped on someone’s head to promote awareness of the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations for its research.

Several government officials have already completed the challenge including Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, Albay Governor Joey Salceda, Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares.

However, some social media observers said taking the challenge was just for political spectacle, especially since there is no statistics about ALS in the Philippines.

Sereno said “my giving will be quiet so my answer will be quiet.”
