Before becoming the seventh president of the Philippines, the late President Ramon Magsaysay first served as representative of the district of Zambales from 1946 to 1950 and defense secretary from 1950 to 1953. On Dec. 30, 1953, his inauguration as president of the country was held at the Independence Grandstand in Manila. Magsaysay was born on Aug. 31, 1907, and died in a plane crash on March 17, 1957.
