Binay breaks silence on carpark row, accuses Trillanes of witness intimidation

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday accused Senator Antonio Trillanes IV of intimidating a witness to stop him from testifying at the Senate investigation into the alleged overpriced parking building in Makati City.

Binay said Trillanes tried to stop a representative of a contractor from attending Tuesday’s hearing by the Senate blue ribbon committee.

“Itong testigong ito na kinatawan ng kontrata ay pinagmumura ni Trillanes,” he said at a press conference.

“Ito ay minura, tinakot, dinuro at (pinapasama sa kasong plunder),” said Binay.

Binay said the senator must have been afraid that this witness would tell the Senate that the parking building, which is the subject of the investigation, was not overpriced.

Binay did not identify the witness as of posting time.

Binay said Trillanes and Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano’s way of questioning the hearing was proof that the Senate was a “politicized” forum.
