MMDA to implement revised sticker scheme for buses on Edsa
MANILA, Philippines—To get rid of fake bus stickers, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will issue new and color-coded segregation stickers for buses plying the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).
Francis Tolentino, MMDA chairman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the agency will distribute bus stickers, with colors green, yellow and orange, to operators free of charge.
“Bus operators and drivers have been resorting to using counterfeit stickers to defraud the enforcers so that they can load and unload passengers anywhere they please. “It’s high time to put an end to bus drivers’ wanton disregard of the law,” Tolentino said.
Under the new Transport and Traffic Memorandum Circular, Bus A stickers will be tagged with yellow stickers; Bus B with green stickers; and Bus C with orange stickers.
The measure aims to ease the traffic congestion along Edsa.
In 2012, the MMDA issued the Transport and Traffic Management Memorandum Circular No. 14, implementing the bus segregation scheme on the 24-kilometer thoroughfare.
The old scheme grouped buses into Buses A, B, and C with assigned loading and unloading bays per category.
Buses A and B can only use their designated A and B bus stops, respectively, while the C buses are allowed to use all bus stops.
Buses carrying green stickers will stop at the following Bus A loading and unloading bays:
Northbound Magallanes Buendia Guadalupe Shaw Boulevard SM Megamall Boni Serrano Cubao-Farmers Ermin Garcia
Southbound Ermin Garcia Arayat-Cubao V.V. Soliven Connecticut Shaw Starmall Guadalupe Buendia Avenue Mantrade
Buses with yellow stickers will stop at the following Bus B loading and unloading bays:
Northbound Ayala Avenue Estrella Pioneer-Boni SM Megamall Ortigas Avenue Main Avenue Baliwag-5 Star
Southbound Kamuning Monte de Piedad Main Avenue POEA Ortigas Pioneer-Boni Estrella Ayala Avenue
For buses with orange stickers, or previously Bus C, they are allowed to load and unload on all bus stops.
