MANILA, Philippines–A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted off Catanduanes on Friday and is being monitored, the state weather bureau said.
The LPA, which was observed 470 kilometers of Virac, is embedded in the intertropical convergence zone that is affecting the Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Friday.
Pagasa said the LPA is not likely to develop into a cyclone, adding that this possibility is not being discounted. If it intensifies into a tropical depression, it will be locally named “Kanor,” it said
Palawan, Visayas and the Regions of Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to north will prevail over Luzon and from the southwest to south over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, Pagasa said.
