Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento, the Valenzuela Police chief, said Police Officer 1 Richard M. Namora of the Valenzuela Police Community Precinct-3 in Marulas, Valenzuela, has just ended his shift when he chanced upon Rafael Cadag, 21, of Lico, Tondo, Manila, attempting to rob Razen Mahilig, a manager of a water purifier company, inside a jeepney travelling along Batangas Street in Tondo.
Upon seeing the policeman approaching, Cadag fled from the scene, but he was cornered by Namora in an alley. The suspect then drew a knife and tried to stab Namora, but the policeman drew his Glock17 handgun and shot him twice in the body. He was later rushed to Tondo General Hospital.
Armamento reported that Cadag was involved in several robberies and was detained once at the Manila City Jail.
Meanwhile, Namora, assisted by his unit commander, Senior Insp. Vic Guzman, and Superintendent Armamento, turned over his handgun and reported to the Manila Police District-General Assignment Section for further investigation.
