PECANDELA Law Firm stopped the five-game run of league-leader Los Demonyos with a close, 68-67 win last Saturday in the 7th IBP-2011 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.
Los Demonyos led in the first two quarters behind Richard Bauzon and Lito Ortiz, but Pecandela went strong in the 3rd with a 19-11 run to grab a, 53-48 lead entering the final quarter.
High-leaping Mark Russ Gamallo and Sam Malazarte gave Pecandela crucial baskets in the closing seconds for the one-point win.
Gamallo and Malazarte led Pecandela, which improved to 4-2, with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Bauzon and Ortiz paced Los Demonyos with 16 and 13 markers.
Earlier, Bhutakalz (2-4) beat favored Pañeros, 62-57 with Van Ligutan scoring 23 points. Jarred Cabilte paced Pañeos (3-3) with 19 points.
In the other game, Los Eagles trounced Primos Inter Pares led by Mayor Michael Rama, 64-52, for its 4th win in six games.
Jun Arabis and Al Lagahit paced Los Eagles with 16 points apiece while Marven Miralles and Mayor Rama paced Primos with 14 and 11 points.
In the main game, Super Idols (4-2) crushed Jodin (2-4), 73-62 with Fermin Pepito and Ramsey Quijano leading Super Idols with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Chug Cadiogan paced Jodin with 19 points.
