MANILA, Philippines – Don’t worry. Although port congestion is expected to worsen in the following months because of the Christmas season, cargo trucks are now using so-called “trade routes” to help ease traffic in Metro Manila, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Said during a media briefing.

(And because the Christmas season nears…we’re just counting the days before the –ber months leading up to the Christmas season, we expect the volume of cargo shipments received at the Port of Manila to increase, and because of this, we are looking for adequate solutions such as increasing the trade routes.)

The Secretary said the trade routes are roads that allow the trucks to quickly transfer their cargo from the port to other trade centers.

There are determined routes for those going south and those headed north.

“At nagtutulungan lahat ng mga adjoining ports katulad din ‘nung sa Batangas at sa Subic para ma-address itong sitwasyon na ito sa Port of Manila,” he said.

(And the adjoining ports such as that in Batangas and Subic are working together to address the situation at the Port of Manila.)
