Taxi driver robbed by woman passenger and a male friend

MANILA, Philippines — A taxi driver was robbed of his earnings by a woman passenger who had a male accomplice waiting for her at her supposed destination in Pasay City on Monday morning.

Edwin Aguinos, 33, who drives a Ran-Gen Transport cab with plate No. UVZ-887, told police that at around 3:15 a.m., the female passenger flagged him down in front of the Sogo Hotel along FB Harrison Street at the corner of Edsa.

Aguinos said that the woman asked to be brought to E. Rodriguez Street, Malibay, in the same city.

When Aguinos reached the place, a man armed with an ice pick suddenly boarded the backseat of the taxi beside the woman passenger and announced the heist.

The taxi driver said the man pointed the ice pick at his neck while his female accomplice took his earnings worth P3,000 from the dashboard of the vehicle.

“I was holding the man’s hand while he stuck the sharp object at my throat,” Aguinos told the police and said he repeatedly begged the man not to hurt him.

He added that when he saw the opportunity to move, he quickly reclined his seat to distract the male robber then jumped out of the cab.

Aguinos said he ran as fast as he could away from his taxi, which the two robbers used to escape towards Malibay area.

The taxi driver said he could not give a clear description of the robbers as he was not able to see their faces.

PO1 Bryan Guzman, the responding officer, said they immediately conducted a follow up operation in Malibay but failed to locate the stolen cab.

Police had warned Pasay residents and the public to be extra-cautious since various modus operandi have been devised by criminals to rob commuters.

“They would sometimes use women and even old people to attract victims,” police added.
