MANILA, Philippines—The low pressure area (LPA) approaching the country is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone but its cloud extension could on Sunday bring light to moderate rain to some parts of Luzon.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasters said the LPA could even dissipate by Sunday.

Forecaster Fernando Cada said the LPA’s proximity to the land mass of northern and Central Luzon would make it incapable of gaining strength.

“It is not capable of developing into a tropical cyclone and may even dissipate,” Cada said.

He, however, pointed out that the LPA’s trough or cloud extension could bring light to moderate thunderstorms over portions of Luzon.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, the LPA was estimated to be 430 kilometers east-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

According to Pagasa’s forecast for Sunday, Metro Manila and the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Ilocos and Central Luzon regions will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds will prevail over the whole country and coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
