MANILA, Philippines – Caloocan Representative Edgar Erice’s call for the term extension of President Benigno Aquino III is based on his own opinion and not the position of the Liberal Party or the government, Malacañang said Wednesday.

“I think he was doing this on his personal view that the President has done so well for the country,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said during a Palace press briefing.

He said Erice was also planning to consult his constituents on the issue.

“I remember he (Erice) was mentioning that ‘kasal ang Pangulo sa bayan (The President is married to the nation).’ So he feels that he’s the best man to lead another term,” Lacierda said.

He insisted that Malacañang had no position on the issue and that the President continues to listen to the “voice of the people.”

Erice earlier said he would file a resolution seeking to amend the Constitutional provision on the term limit of the President.
