NAGA CITY, Philippines — A severed human head believed to belong to a child was found Sunday morning in a residential compound in Catanduanes, a sketchy report from police said.
Police were alerted by Joel Acuna, a resident of Barangay (village) Palnab del Norte, Virac, Catanduanes via text message, on the presence of the mutilated head in the compound owned by a certain Rene Abundo in the same barangay around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, said a report released by Inspector Maria Louisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol.
Calubaquib said policemen from Virac have started investigating a possible infanticide. The exact age and identity of the victim was also still unknown, she said.
A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) has been asked to process the crime scene for clues that could lead to the identity of the victim and the child’s assailant, said Calubaquib.
The police have not released information on Abundo and why the head was found in his property.
