1 dead, 1 injured as four fires raze Metro Cebu

CEBU, Philippines – Four fires hit Metro Cebu in a span of less than 24 hours, killing one and injuring a child, the Bureau of Fire Protection here said Friday. Three fires hit the cities of Mandaue and Cebu, which started at 12:05 p.m. A child was injured in the fire that hit the BG Dionisio Marketing, Kishi Plastic and Precision manufacturing company. A nearby apartment was totally burned and another only partially in the incident that saw at least 20 firetrucks from Consolacion town and Lapu-Lapu City, together with some fire brigades, respond.

Fire Officer 3 Edgar Vergara of the Mandaue City’s BFP said that the narrow road prevented them from putting out the fire that was declared under control at 1:05 p.m.

The warehouse of People’s Education Supply along Pacaña street in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City was also hit by fire past 1 p.m. The estimated damage was pegged at P10,000.

At least 100 houses at Palma St., Barangay San Roque, Cebu City were razed, with damage to property estimated at P500,000, according to FO3 Rogelio Bungabong, Cebu City marshall. The fire was declared under control at 4:45 p.m. A man from Sibonga town, identified as Willington Lopez, was burned to death while he was sleeping Thursday night in his house at Barangay (village) Candaguit. According to FO1, Rowel Tumongha of Sibonga Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that a lighted candle that may have fallen down may have caused the fire as there was no electricity in the Lopez residence.
