MANILA, Philippines—The Sandiganbayan has allowed former President and now Pampanga representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to vote in 2016 Presidential elections.
In a one-page minute resolution by the anti-graft court’s first division, Presiding Judge Efren dela Cruz approved the motion of Arroyo to allow her to vote and undergo biometric registration in the upcoming elections.
The court ordered Lubao, Pampanga election officer Leonito Paule Miguel, or any of his representatives, to reactivate Arroyo’s voter’s registration and conduct her biometrics validation at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) not later than October 15, 2015.
The detained Pampanga representative’s camp asked the court last June 13 to allow her to go to her hometown to register for the election in May 2016.
Arroyo missed two consecutive elections, which has effectively deactivated her registration as voter.
“Election officer Miguel is hereby directed to inform the court in writing of his or his duly authorized representative’s compliance with this resolution within five days from the completion of the said voter-list reactivation and biometrics validation of the said accused,” the order read.
