MANILA, Philippines—Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on Thursday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an investigation on allegations that Justice Undersecretary Francisco Baraan and government prosecutors handling the Maguindanao massacre case received bribe money.
“Usec. Baraan and the panel members, the public prosecutors sought the investigation to know the truth,” De Lima said.
The NBI will investigate all the issues including the alleged offer of P300 million to lawyer Nena Santos who declined the money.
To be summoned by the NBI are officers from defense counsels Sigfried Fortun and Arnel Manaloto.
De Lima gave the NBI 30 days to come up with a recommendation.
