MANILA, Philippines—A Mexican man died over the weekend after accidentally pulling the trigger of a .45 caliber pistol he was holding while posing for a selfie.
Oscar Oreto Aguilar, 21, was drinking with two friends in Mexico City when he posed for a selfie by directing a gun to his temple and accidentally pulled the trigger of the pistol.
A report from the Mexican news site Proceso said that Aguilar was still found alive by police officers but later died while being taken to the hospital. The police arrested Aguilar’s companion named Abner Campos Vives while Aguilar’s other friend, which is only known as “El Paco”, evaded capture and is currently on the run.
Media reports said that Aguilar was fond of posting selfies on his Facebook account.
The Ministry of Public Affairs ruled Aguilar’s death as an accident and an autopsy would be scheduled this week.
Aguilar’s case is not the first selfie-related death reported.
In July, a 14-year-old high school student of Rizal High School- Pasig City died after allegedly falling off the stairs in her school while she and her friends were taking a selfie.
