MANILA, Philippines–Typhoon Jose continues to move toward the northern part of the Philippines and was last spotted 780 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan province as of 10 p.m., the state weather bureau said.
In its late-night bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Jose was moving at 11 kilometers per hour and traversing a northwest path.
Pagasa added that Jose was packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gusts of 200 kph.
Although Jose is not expected to directly affect the country, Pagasa said it will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon that will trigger rains particularly in the Ilocos Region and Central Luzon. Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa, meanwhile, will have occasional rains.
In a related development, the Marikina Public Information Office said Marikina River was still on alert level one even as six out of eight floodgates were opened as of 11:05 p.m. to prevent the overflow of water due to the heavy rain on Monday evening.
