MANILA, Philippines–Typhoon Jose has maintained its strength and continues to head toward the northern part of the country, the weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) last spotted Jose at 870 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of 230 kph. Jose was moving west northwest path at 11 kph.
Pagasa said Jose will have no direct effect on the country, but will bring rains to Luzon and the Visayas, particularly the Ilocos Region and Central Luzon, due to enhanced southwest monsoon.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have occasional rains, according to Pagasa.
Visayas will be cloudy with moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
No public storm warning signal was hoisted over any area.
