Motorists hurt in weekend mishap

A weekend family trip to Cebu City turned ugly for two motorists who figured in a collision along the Transcentral Highway in Gaas, Balamban town at noon last Saturday.

Police said the victims were identified as 24-year-old Francis Gonzales, his 12-year-old half brother Kenneth Dale Socorro and 55-year-old Joseph Lopez.

Gonzales rode a Honda motorcycle with his brother Socorro when the incident occurred.

Gonzales said he lost control of his Honda XRM motorycle bearing plate number GU 7722, causing him and his brother to skid sidewards to the left side of the highway and collide with Lopez, who rode a black Hyundai Accent vehicle.

The two were headed to Tuburan town while Lopez was headed to Cebu City to attend Mass at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño with his wife and son for his birthday.

Gonzales works at an outsourcing firm while Lopez worked at an Aboitiz firm.

Barangay tanods managed to treat Gonzales and Socorro, who sustained scratches in his arm, a broken lip and a broken left leg.

They brought the victims to the Balamban District Hospital on board a dump truck past 1 p.m.

Gaas barangay captain William Genel said they learned that Gonzales didn’t have a driver’s license.

He said the area where the accident occurred can pose problems for neophyte motorists like Gonzales.
