Cory ‘shining icon of democracy,’ says Binay

MANILA, Philippines–Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday said the late President Cory Aquino, mother of President Aquino, would “always be the shining icon of Philippine democracy.”

Remembering Cory Aquino on her fifth death anniversary, Binay described the late President, who came to power after the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution, as a beacon who rallied her people “to the path of democratic rule.”

“By her example, President Cory reminded all of us the value of humility, the importance of respecting the supremacy of the Constitution, and the rewards of unflinching faith in the wisdom of the Almighty,” Binay said in a statement.
