MANILA, Philippines—The camp of former president and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo dismissed claims that she is behind the coup threats against the Aquino government.
Reports said Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that retired generals identified with Arroyo have been plotting coup threats against Aquino.
Trillanes, however, has denied saying that the disgruntled retired generals were identified with Arroyo.
“Senator Trillanes does not have any idea what he is talking about. He does not know the first thing about a coup d ‘etat. The so- called coups he planned and participated in were lousy and ended miserably for him, with his tail between his legs. He does not know whereof he speaks,”Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, lawyer of former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo told INQUIRER.net.
“We would like to advise Mr. Trillanes to stop taking whatever it is he is taking that is causing all his hallucinations, and concentrate on making laws so as to earn his keep,” Topacio added.
In a radio interview, he said Trillanes should better do “loom bands” if he has nothing good to do.
Loom bands are colorful rubber bands made into bracelets and charms.
He said the “crazy conspiracy theory of Trillanes “can do this country no good.”
Reports of an alleged destabilization plot against the Aquino administration has been circulating lately allegedly involving retired generals of the military recruiting military troops.
Trillanes confirmed the said coup threat but was quick to say that the plan has not “progressed into something serious.”
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has assured the public there would be no armed uprising from the military and that they would remain partisan-free and professional all throughout.
Arroyo is under hospital arrest and charged with plunder in the alleged misuse of P366 million in Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds that went to fictitious expenses in the last two and a half years of her term.
